We start our tour by drinking a cup of Greek coffee in a cafe that stands on the edge of a cliff. Local beekeepers will treat you to Sfakian pita with thyme honey. This dish can only be tasted in this area.
Having reached Hora Sfakion, we will go even further into the mountains. We will pass several old villages where the customs and traditions of old Crete are still preserved. We will see the shot-through road signs and the harsh land of the real Cretans. The whole region of Sfakia is very original and authentic in its existence.
We will pass the famous Vardinoyanis bridge over the Aradena Gorge. The height of the bridge is 138 meters, making it the second-highest bridge in Europe. Here, nearby, we will visit the abandoned village of Aradena with the Byzantine church of St. Michael the Archangel.
Further along the route, we go to a place that the locals call the “balcony”—Kakos Poros. Walking there will take about 40 minutes one way. But the view of the entire southern Sfakian coast is worth it. Here, time stops. No wonder the locals call it a place of strength and healing.
It’s Lunchtime! The local fish tavern will warmly welcome you for a meal.
You can enjoy your holiday on Inligas beach or take a boat trip on a small taxi boat to a place called Loutro. This place is worth seeing at least once; the absence of fuss and civilization and the Tiffany-colored water create unforgettable emotions. It is not possible to reach this location by car.
